Overview

This course prepares you for a career as a scientist in the field of chemistry. You will study the molecular basis of chemical reactions with the opportunity to put these studies into practice in practical laboratory sessions. The basic concepts associated with inorganic, organic and physical chemistry are applied in analysis, synthesis and detection of chemical substances.

With a focus on practical experiences, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills to real-world projects and receive hands-on experience through field studies and laboratory practicals. 

First year will give you a broad introduction to scientific skills across disciplines. Your final year includes a science project that may be linked to industry. With access to state-of-the-art facilities you will be job-ready when you graduate.

As a graduate you may choose to enter the commercial sector, pursue a career in teaching or opt to continue your academic career in research at a masters or PhD level.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in one of Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.
