Overview

The Bachelor of Science/Master of Teaching (Secondary) double degree is designed to prepare secondary school teachers and offers high achieving students additional challenging material to enable them to maximise their intellectual growth and potential. Students will be provided with the background and skills necessary to enter the teaching profession with confidence and competence. Students will also gain knowledge of curriculum studies and education studies and undertake professional experience which brings together theory and practice in school settings. Students will study Education topics in all five years of the double degree, together with Bachelor of Science topics in the first three years.  At the end of third year students will need to meet a minimum graduate point average requirement to progress on to the Master of Teaching topics in years four and five. On successful completion of this degree students will be able to teach junior secondary and secondary school subjects such as mathematics, information technology, chemistry, biology, earth sciences and physics; as well as a Humanities or Social Sciences subject up to year 10 in a school. This double degree also prepares students to be a scientist in a particular field of endeavour and furthermore enables them to adapt the scientific skills to a broad range of careers in addition to the teaching profession.
