Overview

Our Bachelor of Science and Master of Teaching (Secondary) package gives you skills and knowledge in foundational science, while providing a pathway to teaching it as part of a secondary curriculum.  

The Bachelor of Science offers up to 14 majors, including biochemistry, botany, chemistry, environmental geoscience, genetics, mathematics, microbiology, molecular biology, nanotechnology, pharmaceutical chemistry, physics, statistics and zoology.

You can select two science specialties or combine your science major with studies from another discipline, such as business.

Graduates who meet the entry requirements for the Master of Teaching (Secondary) can combine their knowledge of science with skills in education. This two-year teaching qualification addresses the need to move from a generalist model of secondary teacher education to a specialist approach.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in any Mathematics.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Subject proficiency Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Potential Career Outcomes

Scientists work across a large range of industries. You'll graduate ready to find work in government, the private sector, not-for-profits, labs and academia. Graduate science jobs may include geneticist, physicist, chemist, microbiologist, environmental analyst.

If you meet the entry requirements for the Master of Teaching (Secondary), you can become qualified to teach science at a secondary curriculum level.
