Overview

Develop the knowledge and skills to understand the notions of critical disability studies, ableism and ageism, as well as the capacities available to support individuals living with disability and their support networks. Explore the underlying principles of ethical practice, social and emotional development and wellbeing, community engagement and promoting independence. Explore ethical practices at the individual, community and policy level of ageing and disability services. Learn to navigate major systems such as the Australian National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and My Aged Care policies, inform social policy development, enhance service provisions, and promote social inclusion within the ageing and disability sectors.

Gain valuable work experience and build professional networks by completing more than 500 hours of supervised field placements throughout your degree. Graduate with a degree recognised by the Australian Community Workers Association and be eligible for full membership.

Careers: Policy adviser, disability services coordinator, aged care coordinator, case manager, support worker, leisure activities coordinator, community services coordinator, community development officer, counsellor (with further study).
