Overview

The Bachelor of Youth Work and Criminal Justice course prepares you to make a positive difference in the lives of young people involved in, or at risk of being involved in the justice system. You will develop an understanding of the challenges within the justice system and the factors that contribute to young people’s interactions. A holistic and trauma-informed approach ensures you are prepared to address the needs of young people and contribute to their well-being and rehabilitation

You will develop skills in areas relevant to the field including providing support to young people with mental health and drug/alcohol dependencies, addressing complex issues arising from childhood trauma, navigating the criminal justice system, advocating for the rights of young people and assisting individuals with different abilities

The course includes industry placements, providing you with the confidence to support young people to break the cycle, reconnect and transform their lives for the better

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL.

Majors

Criminal justice, Youth work.

Potential Career Outcomes

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to work with young people in a range of community settings, especially within youth justice custodial centres, community youth justice and residential care units.
