Overview

The program is offered on a part-time basis and is only available by external delivery. The Graduate Certificate in Nursing (Health and Ageing) provides registered nurses with enhanced knowledge and skills to care for older people in a range of settings.

Nurses play an important role in promoting positive attitudes and behaviours towards older people and ageing, promoting healthy lifestyles for older people living in the community and management and care practices in the aged care sector. Nurses are also fundamental in the overall health and wellbeing of older people within the community, including multi- and trans-disciplinary care, assessment of health, rehabilitative care, communication and counselling, and promoting and supporting consumer directed care.

Potential Career Outcomes

Graduates will be well-placed to find employment as aged care nurses in a wide variety of aged care settings, including:

  • primary health and community support services
  • aged care
  • rehabilitative care
  • home care
  • community health
