Overview

This course will allow you to develop a basic understanding of nutrition and food in health and disease prevention. Your studies will introduce the foundations of human physiology and the current evidence-based guidelines for a healthy diet in Australia, allowing you to explore the role and function of nutrients in the body. You will gain an appreciation of diet in the prevention of disease, and how exercise impacts on the nutritional requirements of the individual.

If you decide to keep studying to aim for higher roles, you may progress to the Bachelor of Human Nutrition (which offers a route into the Bachelor of Nutritional Science/Master of Dietetics, or postgraduate studies in Dietetics).

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in one of Biology, Chemistry, Health And Human Development, any Mathematics or Physical Education.

Majors

Diet and health.
