What will you do?

Our Bachelor of Languages (Indonesian Studies) is interactive and immersive. You will:

  • learn to speak, read and write Indonesian
  • build cross-cultural skills for social and workplace settings
  • explore Indonesian societies and cultures, including Indigenous communities and belief systems
  • study the developments which have shaped, and continue to shape, Australia's relationship with Indonesia
  • prepare for employment in Indonesia, or in organisations with an Indonesian focus
  • have the opportunity to study abroad.
The University of Adelaide has student exchange links with over 100 institutions around the world. You can study overseas for one or two semesters, with credit toward your degree.

The New Colombo Plan Scholarship Program also provides opportunities for Australian undergraduate students to undertake semester-based study, internships or mentorships in 40 participating Indo-Pacific locations.

Where could it take you?

There are many exciting career options for Australians who study Indonesian. You could be a diplomat, a development worker for an NGO, or a journalist in Jakarta. You might work in international trade. Perhaps you'll pursue teaching, tourism, or translation.
