Overview

The Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) prepares students to be a patient-centred medicines expert, adaptable and ready to face new healthcare challenges in the changing pharmacy profession. Pharmacists can work in a community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, industry, research or a range of other settings. At UQ, students develop knowledge and skills in pharmacy practice and medicines management; consultation and dispensing skills; pharmaceutical sciences; and social pharmacy and the health system. Our integrated approach means students gain a strong understanding of how theory is applied to real cases across a wide range of settings. In dedicated laboratories and mock pharmacies at the Australian Pharmacy Centre of Excellence, UQ students learn about the properties of medicines, how medicines affect the body and develop the soft skills necessary to succeed in the pharmacy profession. Throughout their degree, students will learn how to provide safe and effective person-centred care to improve health through the use of medicines. With extensive practical experience, an 8-week final-year placement, and UQ’s interprofessional education program students will know how to work as a valued member of a multi-disciplinary primary healthcare team once they graduate, work-ready, in a profession with one of the highest graduate employment rates in Australia.
