Overview

Students of this course have the potential to undertake key roles in industry, research organisations, and government departments.

By studying science and business management, you'll have the technical skills required of a practising scientist and the business skills to be an effective manager and leader – a highly attractive combination for employers.

As a part of your Biological Sciences degree, you will study biological diversity of plants, animals, and microbes based on your understanding of the chemical and physical basis of how cells function. You will see how these biological entities come together in various environments to form ecosystems and understand how these environments can be disrupted.

In first year, you'll explore core science concepts across physical, life, data and mathematical science disciplines and develop key scientific skills. Importantly you will be given the opportunity to apply your learning through various laboratory practical classes and field trips.

Prerequisites

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in one of Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

The type of careers this qualification leads to may include field zoologist/botanist, laboratory biologist, industrial microbiologist, conservation, marine biology, science education and journalism, scientific product marketing, environmental consultancy, teaching and research, management positions in relevant areas.
