Overview

Prepare for, rewarding career as, speech pathologist and graduate with honours in just four years. Learn to help people of all ages with swallowing and feeding difficulties as well as communication challenges, including hearing, understanding and producing language, speaking, reading and writing. Work closely to support and empower people with conditions such as developmental delays and disorders, autism spectrum disorder, and neurological conditions like stroke, brain injury and dementia.

Study core courses in physiology, applied psychology, anatomy and communication science. Access technologies used for hearing assessments and understanding acoustic signals of speech and voice production. Gain practical, hands-on experience by completing more than 800 clinical placement hours across, range of settings, including hospitals, schools, community services and our on-campus health clinics.

Pre-Placement Requirements:

All students who, as part of their program, undertake activities where interaction with patients/the public is required, such as in field or clinical placements/visits and in University clinics and gyms, must satisfy the pre-placement requirements prior to commencement. These may include:

  • Criminal history screenings
  • Department of Human Services (DHS) checks
  • Vaccinations and screening for communicable diseases
  • Professional training and certification

This program has received Provisional Accreditation with Speech Pathology Australia.

CAREERS Qualified speech pathologists can work in, range of settings, including: Hospitals, private practice, rehabilitation services, aged care facilities, community services, home-based services, government departments, schools, not-for-profit and NGOs
