Overview

Prepare for a professional career in age and disability support or management. Develop the skills to enhance the wellbeing of people who have experienced personal or social difficulties. Focus on key areas such as ageing and disability and the law, diversity in ageing and disability, sociology of disability and ageing, and case management and support coordination.

Students will explore a range of human service organisations to understand and navigate the human service welfare infrastructure, with a specific emphasis on understanding the ageing and disability sectors service models. They will also research the human services sector to develop a deeper understanding of their roles in ageing and disability service delivery, and inter-agency work.

Students will develop sector-specific knowledge and skills, which will provide opportunities for graduates to work in both ageing and disability sectors and to provide some NDIS supported services.

Credit and accelerated pathways into higher level and self-paid employment through registration with the Developmental Educators Australia Inc (DEAI) is also an option after completing the program. Graduates may also be qualified to enter into further study at Masters level.

Potential Career Outcomes

Aged and/or disability care work, community development, social planning, program or agency management, case management within government or non-government organisations.
